Public University Research Grants
The submission deadline has passed and the Bureau is no longer accepting applications
On September 17, the Bureau of Cannabis Control (Bureau) announced a Request for Proposals for university research grants for public universities in California. The Bureau has $30 million to be disbursed for research projects related to the implementation and effect of Proposition 64.
The application window officially closed on October 19, and the Bureau received more than 100 proposals. Due to the high volume of response, the Bureau has decided to postpone notification for grant recipients. An official announcement will come by the end of next week. This will allow more time for careful consideration and review of each proposal.
The Bureau of Cannabis Control (Bureau) is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for public university research grants for California public universities. The Bureau has thirty million dollars ($30,000,000) to be disbursed.
Research proposals must fall within one of the several specified categories, which include public health, criminal justice and public safety, economic, environmental impacts, and the cannabis industry. A detailed description of the list of research subjects for grant funding is contained in Revenue and Taxation Code section 34019.
The deadline to submit questions related to this RFP was no later than 11:59 p.m. on September 24, 2020. Please click here to view the Bureau’s responses to questions received prior to the deadline.
The online application portal was accessible starting September 17, 2020 through the application deadline of 11:59 p.m. on October 19, 2020. All applications needed to be submitted prior to this deadline to be considered.
